Splice a Dyneema loop around it and you have a soft shackle or a rope stop with no metal shackle to bang about, no knot to slip, and almost no weight.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAllen's triple cut-out shape is the clever bit: the rope beds into the tapers and the raised ridges between them stop it sliding off, so it holds without crushing the line. Cross holes at each end take a leash, and the recessed end lets the leash knot sit flush.
