It stops the mainsheet from getting between mast and mount, and adds extra hold-down. The aerodynamic trailing edge keeps windage low and sheds water coming over the bow.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe base has a skirt that hides the supplied 3M Dual Lock, so the mount sits flush and clean on the deck. The MadMounts quick release is built in, so you don't need a VK diamond, and the heavy duty spring sits inside a cavity away from salt water.
