Aerovane Lower Mast Mounted – Allen

A wind indicator is the cheapest speed you can buy, and the aerovane reads cleaner than the default burgee most boats still carry. It is a moulded nylon vane on a rod, balanced with a built in counterweight so it shows true apparent wind angle instead of drooping or lagging.

That counterweight also stops the side to side flapping you get from lighter vanes in a breeze, so the signal stays honest when you actually need it upwind. It is shaped big enough to read from the rail but small enough not to add drag.

The mount collar is slightly flexible plastic, so it fits a wide range of spar diameters. It attaches with the supplied elastic loop and stopper ball: loop it over the collar hook and slide the ball down tight. The vane pushes onto the rod until it clicks and pulls off again with a firm tug, so it stores flat. Vane length 190 mm, rod 270 mm, around 50 g.
