Monel Blind Rivet 4.8 x 12 mm – Honsel

The 4.8 x 12 mm Monel rivet is the size you reach for most on an ILCA. Almost every job on the rig starts here, and it is the one to keep a full pack of on the shelf.

• Gooseneck on the lower mast, four rivets

Monel is a nickel-copper alloy that sits close to aluminium electrically, so it survives at a spar fitting where stainless would pit the alloy around the hole. Honsel extrude theirs from wire rather than drawing them from strip, which gives higher strength and keeps the broken mandrel captive in the sleeve. The sleeve is additionally galvanised and the mandrel is A4 stainless, so nothing is left in the hole to rust and stain your spar.

Grip range 6.0 to 8.0 mm, 4.9 mm drill, 9.5 mm head. Use an anti-corrosion paste such as Duralac or Tef-Gel in the hole when you are putting stainless fittings onto an aluminium spar.
